Azure blue lapis lazuli is a true rock star. Lapis has been valued for millennia and was the most precious stone during the Sumerian and early Egyptian cultures.

The name for stone in Latin was “lapis”. Lazuli originally referred to the original location of the mines in Afghanistan where lapis has been mined for over 6,000 years. Azure now refers to this blue color which is most like the clear blue sky.

Lapis is a stone composed of the mineral lazulite which gives it it’s blue color. It has golden colored iron pyrite inclusions and also calcite amongst the blue base color.

Afghanistan and Chile are the primary sources for lapis

Lapis is connected with the higher octaves of the planet Saturn. It helps with seeing things as they really are and for being truthful. In ancient Egypt it was worn as a badge of office by the chief justice.
