Black obsidian is a type of volcanic glass formed during some lava flows. Snowflake obsidian is formed when clusters of crystabolite crystals are dispersed in the basic obsidian. The iridescence of rainbow obsidian is thought to occur because of very small gas bubbles in the slowly cooling obsidian flow which disperse the light into rainbow colors.
We also have snowflake obsidian animal carvings and various cut shapes in hearts, eggs and pyramids. Most of our obsidian comes from the Western United States and Mexico.
