Tigereye is a yellow, golden brown variety of chalcedony quartz with a banded silky effect. This catseye phenomenon or chatoyancy is caused by silica replacing asbestos fibers. It gives tigereye a unique moving luster when the stone is shifted in the light.
Most tigereye comes from South Africa. Tigereye is often found in seams between layers of hematite. Australian tigeriron has a mix of tigereye, hematite and red jasper.
Northern Lights Gemstones has tigereye pendants, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, animal carvings, hearts and other shapes and specimens.
