Malachite

Malachite is a dark green copper carbonate mineral. It is one of the most important ornamental copper minerals along with azurite malachite and chrysocolla with which it is sometimes combined.

Malachite jewelry makes a bold statement with dark green banded with lighter green in dramatic swirl patterns.

The name malachite has its origin in the Greekmalakoswhich refers to its softness. It is amongst those stones which have been popular since antiquity. It was used as jewelry, for ornaments and in powdered form as eye shadow in Egypt. Most malachite now comes from the Congo.
