Citrine is a yellow to yellow orange variety of quartz. It is iron within the quartz which gives it color. Citrine is found throughout the world though most stones available on the market come from Brazil. A fair amount of commercial citrine is heat treated amethyst.


The name citrine comes from the Latincitrina which means yellow.


Citrine is used as a substitute gem for the November birthstone of precious yellow topaz. In Vedic astrology it is used as a substitute for yellow sapphire to strengthen Jupiter. It represents an energy of creativity and abundance.
