Crystal quartz is the clear, colorless variety of quartz. It is one of the most spectacular of mineral specimens in its varied crystal formations. The word crystal comes from the Greek word for ice.

Quartz crystals are found in many locations around the world. The most famous locations at the present time are from Arkansas in the United States and Minas Geras in Brazil. Many mining operations have byproducts of crystalline quartz since it is associated with the metallic ores in hydrothermal veins.
