Jasper is a type of chalcedony that includes many different jewelry and ornamental stones. The most usual colors of jasper are red, yellow, green, tan and brown in varying combinations. Its myriad patterns of color include spotted or orbicular, banded, brecciated or broken, dendritic (fern like) and solid.


The name jasper has its origin in many ancient languages and means spotted stone. Many objects from the earliest civilizations are made of jasper.


Jasper takes a good polish and has a hardness and integrity of structure which also makes it a suitable stone for jewelry use.
